Cheap Flights to China from DC, Newark, and more!

PEK

If you’re looking for cheap flights to China, listen up!  First off, bear with me while I explain the background of this type of deal: most large airlines these days (Delta, United, American, etc) have hub cities, where most of their flights operate to and from.  And often times, airlines tend to dominate the market at their particular hub cities.  For example, one of Delta’s big hubs is Atlanta, so in order to try to steal business from Delta in the Atlanta market, United might offer special deals for flights to and from Atlanta.

Right now, the exact opposite is happening.  Delta has launched a sale to China out of several United hubs – namely Chicago, Washington DC, Newark, and San Francisco.  Roundtrip flights to Beijing are as low as $652 including all taxes and fees!

But, even if you don’t live in one of the cities above, stay tuned.  Frequently, when one airline “attacks” another airline’s hubs, the “attacked” airline retaliates with sales from the original “attacking” airline’s hubs.  So in this case, Delta is attacking United with a sale from United’s hubs, so there’s a good chance that United will retaliate soon with a sale from Delta’s hubs (Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis).  So if you’re in Atlanta, Detroit, or Minneapolis, keep an eye out for a possible sale in the next day or two.  Typically, these types of hub attacks only last for a few days (sometimes only 1-2 days), so the time to jump on the deal is relatively short.

Anyway, back to the deal at hand…

As of right now, the lowest fares are available from Chicago, Washington DC, Newark, and San Francisco between late August and late November.  Here’s a calendar of fares from ITA Matrix from Washington DC to Beijing for the month of September:

You can use ITA Matrix or Kayak to perform flexible date searches, and then you can book directly on Delta’s website.  As a constant reminder, when you book directly with the airline, you have up to 24 hours to cancel for a full refund, so when it comes to deals like this, if you even think you might want to take advantage of this sale, it’s in your best interest to go ahead and book now.  Then, you can finalize you’re thinking and planning within 24 hours…you’ll lock in the price by booking now, but in 24 hours when you’re ready to book, the fare might be gone and then you’re out of luck!
