As I’ve written about in the past, fares to Europe are almost always the most expensive over the summer. Everyone wants to travel over the summer when the kids are out of school, so naturally prices are the highest. Occasionally, however, deals do pop up for the summer, and I’m now seeing prices in the $700s for flights to Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and a handful of other cities in Spain in August. Compared to most summer fares ($1100-$1200+), this can be a savings of $500+ per person!
It may be a little last minute for some, but this is a pretty rare event for flights to Spain (or anywhere in Europe) to be this low during the summer, albeit late summer. When searching from Raleigh to Barcelona, the available dates for this fare are pretty scattered, but they’re definitely there:
One quick note: long-time readers will probably already know this, but I performed the above search on ITA Matrix, which is an excellent site for searching airfare, especially when searching to/from multiple cities with flexible dates.
These fares are available from lots of cities within the US, so definitely check your home city and there’s a good chance you’ll find a similar fare. It’s even available from the west coast for around the same price:
Booking the Deal
You can use ITA Matrix or Kayak to perform flexible date searches, and then you can book directly on Delta’s website. As a constant reminder, when you book directly with the airline, you have up to 24 hours to cancel for a full refund, so when it comes to deals like this, if you even think you might want to take advantage of this sale, it’s in your best interest to go ahead and book now. Then, you can finalize you’re thinking and planning within 24 hours…you’ll lock in the price by booking now, but in 24 hours when you’re ready to book, the fare might be gone and then you’re out of luck!
